How To: Layering, Fall 2016

Fall is officially upon us and that means it's finally sweater weather! New season, new way to layer those gorgeous coats, bombers, sweaters, cardigans, slips, plaid tops and blanket scarves you have in your closet. With all of these wonderful options and new trends this season, sometimes things can get a bit tricky. There are SO many chic ways to layer, so this week on the blog, I thought I'd break things down for you and give you several looks for Fall 2016. Of course, styling is ALWAYS better done in person, but this guide will be super helpful. If you want to stop by the truck (which I strongly suggest) we update our locations daily on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook and we have TONS of new Fall Arrivals. Happy styling/shopping!

Oversized Coats/Cardigans

If you know me, you know I LOVE oversized clothing. Does my husband? Hell to the no, but women dress for women, right? Right! We know what's up.

Okay, let's get serious. One thing I really love about the oversized coat trend is that they allow you to have some options when you're putting an outfit together. If your jacket is on the tighter side, most likely, a sweater or a couple of layers aren't going to look that flattering underneath. Try some oversized outerwear, it's so stylish right now, plus you'll get to show off other gems that you've invested in and stay warm when the weather gets really cold. We're in Canada, after all. Fashion is always first priority, but us Canucks have to stay warm ;)

Okay, so when it comes to layering under a larger coat, the sky's the limit. Are you digging our cheeky sweatshirts and chunky sweaters? Me too, friend. Those would totally work this Fall. If you're looking to mix it up, you can also wear a long sleeve shirt, crisp button up, turtle neck or this adorable t-shirt underneath your coat and leave it open. To complete the look, add a blanket scarf (we have tons on the truck), a pair of sunglasses and a cross-body bag. If you can execute these styles, you're a layering champion ;) Below, I've put together some images to give you a better visual.

Slip Dress

The slip dress is one of many throwback items I'm psyched to add into my modern day wardrobe. For me, it's a dress that can be worn anywhere and is very easy to style. From work to a birthday party, this is one versatile piece. Wondering how to make that cute dress the focal point of your outfit? Try pairing the dress with a basic white t-shirt underneath and a Rails button down tied around your waist. Not only are these unique looks on trend right now, but the combinations will take your outfit from a seven to a perfect ten. Now for the layering. If you're going out on the town, wear a leather jacket, a choker, a pair of heels and you are set. Looking for a more casual look? A chunky cardigan/bomber jacket, ankle boots and a cute hat will do the trick ;)

Bomber Jackets

Bomber jackets are still a wildly popular item right now. Whether your rocking this trend post workout or running errands on the weekend, this lighter option is such a great piece for Fall. If you go a size up, you're also allowing yourself to layer a bit when it gets chilly, same deal as the oversized outerwear. I wouldn't wear your chunkiest knit under this jacket, but a lightweight top or sweater would look so great. If you're loving Fall Florals, we carry a really cute floral bomber right now by Flying Tomato. Below are some looks and options to help you tackle this style. P.S.  I also threw some jeans into the mix because it just puts the whole outfit together. Plus, we have incredible denim on the truck.
